Hamster Kombat Token Launch Sparks Controversy Over Distribution Mechanics

Viral Telegram clicker game Hamster Kombat is facing a backlash ahead of its launch of the HMSTR crypto token on Thursday after players slammed the distribution mechanics for its airdrop, which could be the largest in history.

Players are especially unhappy with a previously unknown plan to withhold 11.25% of the tokens until July 2025, while there is also dissatisfaction with allocation criteria, with some players arguing that an excessive number of tokens are being distributed to YouTube influencers.

“People invested weeks and months grinding in-game, only to receive Rupees 500 worth of $HMSTR,” said Anuj Gupta on X. “Meanwhile, influencers who did no work earned Rupees10 lakh [1 lakh = 100,000] in $HMSTR through referrals alone. Everyone was expecting significant airdrops, but it always turns out like this.”

Over 300 million people have joined Hamster Kombat since March 26, and 131 million qualified for the airdrop on September 26th. Around 2.3 million were banned for cheating, Hamster Kombat said on X. The Hamster Kombat airdrop of HMSTR could set a record measured by number of recipients.

Hamster Kombat Airdrop May Not Overload the TON Blockchain

The team had postponed the airdrop earlier this year, warning of a potential overload for the Ton blockchain.

But it will reportedly use a new technology for the airdrop that will spare the Ton blockchain from overload witnessed during the Notcoin (NOT) and Dogs (DOGS) airdrops.

This technology, called the Mintless Jetton, allows tokens to be distributed instantly to millions of users with extremely low network fees.

HMSTR will be listed on exchanges including Binance, the world’s largest, ByBit and OKX.
