Hackers attack Olympic Games venue, demand crypto ransom

A Paris Olympics venue is among 40 museums in France that were hacked last weekend and told that their financial data would be leaked unless a crypto ransom is paid. According to Le Parisien, on August 3, the director of information systems for the Grand Palais Museum, which is hosting fencing and martial arts during this year’s Games discovered that the systems that centralize financial data for numerous French museums were being targeted by Hack ers. AT&T paid hacker 6 bitcoins to film deletion of stolen data

AT&T reportedly paid a Hack er 5.7 Bitcoin s worth $373,646 to film themselves deleting tens of millions of customer phone calls and texts stolen from the US-based telecommunications giant. The company revealed on Friday that the data of “nearly all” of its 109 million AT&T Wireless customers was stolen by the ShinyHunters crypto ransomware group in April through its account at cloud data firm Snowflake. According to WIRED, a 5.7 bitcoin transaction took place on May 17. More than 100 Romanian hospitals offline after bitcoin ransom demand

More than 100 Romanian hospitals were taken offline this month after a ransomware group attacked their IT systems, encrypted data, and demanded a bitcoin ransom worth $174,000, according to the country’s National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC). The DNSC revealed that 25 hospitals using the Hipocrate Information System (HIS) have been directly impacted, while computers in another 79 have been taken offline as authorities figure out the scale of the attack. EU teaches Ukraine police to track criminals and their crypto

Police in Ukraine are being taught by EU security experts how to tackle the rising threat of crypto crime in the country.  The training offered by the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) provides intelligence officers from Lviv the tools and know-how to track the flow of crypto assets, identify participants of transactions, and improve their investigative methods. Former FTX exec Salame not willing to testify against SBF

Sam Bankman-Fried’s criminal prosecution for alleged unlawful campaign donations won’t include testimony from former FTX co-CEO Ryan Salame. Information from an Aug. 14 filing by U.S. federal prosecutors shows that Ryan Salame plans to invoke his Fifth Amendment right. It protects him from self-incrimination if he is subpoenaed as a witness in SBF’s criminal trial. Crypto expert sparks outrage for abusing woman in viral video

A legal expert who brought a liquidation application against a multilevel marketing firm responsible for soliciting ​​29,421 bitcoin ($1.7 billion) from US customers has been identified in a video where he’s seen physically and verbally abusing a domestic worker from South Africa .  Vaughn Victor can be seen abusing the now 63-year-old Antjie Bochedi on a farm in Hennenman. The video was filmed while Victor was questioning her about the murder of 56-year-old Pieter Hills and his 26-year-old son Eddie on November 2020. According to The Citizen, Victor was acting as a family spokesperson following the murders on the farm. The incident was filmed by behavioral specialist Wendy Nickland who joined Victor in the interview to help determine if any of the farm staff were lying. Despite the apparent incident, Bochedi has refused to press any charges against Victor . Police bust Aussie crypto scam, seize Ferrari, watches, weapons

A pair of Australian men behind a crypto scam conned two businesses out of AU$5.5 million ($3.7 million) have been arrested and authorities have seized a vast collection of luxury cars, high-end watches, and even a pair of nunchucks.  Back in March, Sydney police launched ‘Strike Force Scotland’ to investigate claims of the scam that allegedly dates back to 2021. As a result of this investigation, two men were arrested earlier this month. The youngest of the pair was apprehended on June 16 after police stopped his car. He was charged with three counts of deception in pursuit of financial gain and knowingly handling the proceeds of crime in relation to the alleged crypto scam. The second man was arrested five days later and charged with handling the proceeds of the crime. Latest round of DeFi exploits display its wide range of vulnerabilities

Over the past couple of days, three incidents affecting decentralized finance ( DeFi ) projects have led to a total of around $2 million in losses. The amount may not seem much in comparison to blow-ups such as FTX or some of the larger exploits to hit the sector, but the cases demonstrate the varied nature of the dangers faced by DeFi users.
