Ethereum Core Developer Proposes Slashing Block Times In Half Ahead Of 2026 Glamsterdam Fork
Ethereum core developer Barnabé Monnot has proposed that the network’s block time be slashed in half ahead of the Glamsterdam fork slated for 2026. In the Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 7782 discussed on June 21, the developer floated the idea of decreasing block times from 12 seconds to 6 seconds by adjusting the timing of various blockchain operations. Reduced Block Times Will Up “Service Price” Monnot said that reducing the amount of time it takes for a new block to get added to the network will increase Ethereum’s “service price,” which refers to the economic value that the blockchain can capture for providing its service as a settlement layer.
