Japan’s First Yen-Backed Stablecoin JPYC Set For Fall Launch

Japan is preparing to issue its first yen-backed stablecoin this fall, as Tokyo-based fintech firm JPYC nears approval from the Financial Services Agency (FSA). The imminent approval, first reported by Nikkei Asia, is a landmark in the country’s effort to integrate digital assets into its regulated financial system. Unlike foreign stablecoins already circulating in Japan, JPYC is designed to facilitate domestic corporate payments, international remittances, and activity in decentralized finance (DeFi). Backed by highly liquid assets such as bank deposits and government bonds, the token seeks to maintain a strict 1:1 peg with the yen.
